Video Transcript for Review of Diode Dynamics Off Road Lights - SS5 Sport LED Combo Pod Light With Bracket - DDY67GV

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Diode Dynamics SS5 Sport LED combo pod light with bracket. This 5 inch LED combo pod light, it's gonna be great for allowing you to see near and far. It's gonna give you bright light with reduced glare for improved visibility and safety. Now I do have this connected to my power source already.

What you're currently seeing is one of my favorite features of this light. It's the backlight feature, but more on that in the next moment or so. I do have this light installed in it's bracket. And it does include the hardware that you're going to need to install the bracket and the light virtually anywhere on your vehicle. And then you also receive the hardware to install the light into the bracket.

And what's nice about using this light with the bracket is you're gonna have the ability to adjust the angle of that light virtually anywhere that is going to work best for you. So once you have that angle that you're looking for, you'll just tighten down the hardware on either side of the bracket and the light and it will hold that angle for you. Now these brackets are constructed of durable aluminum and I have one here. And so you're not gonna have to worry about corrosion. It's gonna be very durable for you.

Hold up really well against the elements that's gonna be constantly exposed to. Now I'm gonna go ahead and shut my studio lights off here just to give you a better demonstration of this backlight. I'm gonna go for a wide view here. So this backlight has a selectable feature where you can change the colors. You're gonna get eight different color options.

Now it's going to work a whole lot better if you have this wired to a switch. I don't have one, so I'm just going to try to manually touch some wires here to change the colors here for you. So I'm gonna cycle through them quickly. But you're going to get eight different color options that are gonna be perfect for adding a stylish accent to your vehicle. It's gonna give you more visibility when you're not using that main beam. And lemme go ahead and just pop a photo up here on your screen that's gonna give you a better idea of all the colors that are available. So you're gonna get blue and red and teal and amber and green and purple, yellow and white. So you're gonna get all those color options. And again, you're just gonna alternate the power on and off with a switch and you'll just have to source that switch locally. But you don't have to worry about any complicated programming with the controller or anything like that. Now as you can see I switched it to the green backlight feature. I am gonna go out again for a wide view, turn my power off, my lights off again, and give you a view of that main beam. So you see the difference between the backlight and then that main beam. And let's see if I can shine this on the wall behind me just to give you a view of that combo beam pattern. So this combo beam is a mix between your driving and flood lights. And so this light is gonna be great for all around use. And this light has a color temperature of 6,000 kelvin. So that cool white color is gonna match most of your factory LED lights. This light has a raw lumen rating of 4,800 lumens and a measured lumen rating of 3,800 lumens. And even with my studio lights on, you can still see that light. It's a very bright light. And going back in for a closeup here again, this light has a peak beam intensity of 81,600 candela. Now, in case you don't know, candela ratings measure the directional light output and it's how anything is rated where you want light shining in a specific direction. Lumen ratings are just for omnidirectional output, like your regular light bulbs where you want light shining in all directions. Before a more detailed description of those ratings, you can visit this product page or you can also check out Diode Dynamics. They do provide additional information that you can find. Now the power draw on the main beam is 2.75 amps. And on that backlight, it's 0.25 amps. And this light is designed with newer technology known as custom TIR optics. TIR stands for total internal reflection. So unlike the older technology that uses reflectors or simple projector lenses, which aren't real efficient in focusing all the light where you want it, this custom designed large TIR optic actually collects and then focuses all that light forward very efficiently. And then instead of having another external lens, certain lens patterns have been molded directly into the surface of this lens. So that's gonna prevent the normal efficiency loss you see with an outside lens. As you probably know, when you shine light through any type of glass or plastic, you could lose up to 10% of that light just from it shining through. So by making it as a part of this lens, you're actually gonna gain some efficiency rather than lose it. Now this does feature a industry standard integrated Deutsch style connector. And as you can see, I do have it plugged into my light, powering my light, but that's what that pigtail is gonna look like when it's not in use. So you see that connector there. And then try not to cross my wires here. I wanna show you here on the back, let see if I can move that bracket there real quick so you can see. We have two breather patches. Let me see if I can give you a better view of that. So two breather patches right there. That's going to prevent moisture buildup in the light, which that's nice. And then we a set of these heat sinks on the back housing that's going to help dissipate heat quickly. So it will increase the longevity of this light. Now this light has been built with high intensity LED chips and it is constructed of a powder coated aluminum construction. So again, very durable. The heavy duty construction's gonna withstand extreme temperatures, corrosion, and vibration. Testing has been completed to SAE standards, just like your factory lighting components. And an interesting fact, Diode Dynamics actually designed, engineered, and assembled this light right down the highway from us at their headquarters here in the greater St. Louis area. Let's talk measurements. Looking at the overall width from end to end, we're sitting really close to 5-1/8 inches. That's gonna be the same measurement for the height, but then when you add that bracket, that's obviously gonna increase the height a little bit. So from the top of the light to the bottom of our bracket, it's gonna be right at about 5-1/2 inches tall. That's gonna change a little bit or fluctuate depending on the angle of your light. So this light does draw high current and it does require adequately sized wiring for safe operation. So if you're not using a Diode Dynamics wiring harness, you do wanna make sure that you're using wiring that's 16 gauge or larger. Well, that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together has been helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
